I’ve had a personal encounter with a child who has autism. It was hard to socialize with him because he avoided making eye contact with me and he wanted to spend time alone. Since that day, autism has become very intriguing for me now I can study a topic that interests me. Through this study, I’ve learned how grateful I am for the life I have and although I go through challenges every day, others have it much worse. I’ve also learned that the tiniest problems in the brain can affect your whole personality the way you interact with others. Introduction Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder, is a developmental disorder that makes a person’s ability to socialize with others difficult. People who are diagnosed with autism have poor communication skills and have unusual body movements like rocking back forth and pacing. From time to time, they have meltdowns or outbursts when they are pushed past the limit of their social abilities. Autism comes with a few traits that make a particular person seem different from everyone else. Those specific traits make their lives difficult and create problems for them everyday. The cause of autism is still unknown, but researchers believe that genetic and environmental factors are possible reasons on why it occurs. The disorder may be passed on from parents to children.
